A temporary food shortage occured this afternoon at Jurongpoint's Seoul Gardens where an unidentified teen accompanied by an entourage of younger teens had lunch, or so the management thought.
"The other children were ok, it was the guy... the guy", said Mr Soh Gah Den, still traumatised over the food gorging incident on Dec 18 which resulted in a sharp drop in profits and Mr Soh's job on the line.
In a statement yesterday, the Food and Beverages Association (FBA) said there was no cause for alarm.
Mr Foo De stated firmly, "We have adopted a new system ala hotels, where we have put up pictures of the mystery teen in all buffet restaurants, and all waiters and service personal are to notify relevant authorities when they spot him - something like how hotels have banded together to fight people who go for free hotel stayovers. We will tide over this crisis and prevent this (the gorging incident) to happen again."
According to sources, the mystery teen is believed to be a student going by the name of Benedict. The jaunt to Seoul Garden started off seemingly innocent enough, with the group praying before they ate.
"They reserved 15 places under 'Glory Presbyterian Church', and even prayed together before they ate. Only after they, I mean he, started eating, I realised they might not have praying for their food but for us instead.", a waitress who declined to be named said.
"I mean most people stop at their second plate of food laden with meat and seafood, but he just didn't stop!"
An official from the Ministry of Health was called in when the branch outlet ran out of beef at 3:45 pm. The teen was repeatedly shoving piles and piles of meat and seafood onto his plate, with no signs of slowing. After reserve stocks of beef, squid and mussels were virtually wiped out by the single mean-meat-machine, a waitress took initiative and politely informed the teen that the buffet was only up to 4:45 pm.
Mr Soh Gah Den said with relief, "By a stroke of initiative by one of our staff, we managed to prevent further demolation of our buffet spread. Disgruntled customers were demanding refunds after realising that the spread was empty."
The waitress was in a jovial mood after the Gorging Incident, "The management gave me a bonus of two months salary, a small token of appreciation really, relative to losses incurred, and could be."
A leaked report by the Inspectorate of Food Reserves of Singapore revealed that a gargantun amount of food totalling 1, 20, 100, being cow squids and mussels respectively. Many staff in the service sector were failing to enter details of such Gorging Incidents into the FBA records, resulting in inefficent barring of such eating machines.
This incident had led to the implementation of various policies like thorough background checks for mutated metabolisms and eating disorders. Mr Foo, general secretary of the FBA, said that the food industry is confident that such measures would weed out customers who eat without considering the current flailing plight of the industry.
"There are people who try to make a living by selling inedible food, packaging it as a novel experience: cook, burn, nibble and get out."
By 5 pm, there was already a crowd gathering to witness this spetecale, with the teen showing no signs of fatigue or a full stomach whatsoever. Only ten minutes after bouncers dragged a struggling Benedict away from the buffet spread did the crowd start to disperse.
Our reporter at the scene managed to catch up with the teen and conduct a small interview, of which the teen shook his head sadly and said, "I'm hungry."
Investigations are still pending, and Seoul Garden is still deciding whether to press charges.
